FAQs

QHOW MANY WORDS CAN A TRANSLATOR TRANSLATE PER DAY?

A Approximately 3,000 words per day, but this may change depending on the language and the complexity of the text. We can give you an exact turnaround time after we review your document or web site.

Q ARE YOUR TRANSLATORS CERTIFIED?

A Our translators are certified by the American Translators Association and/or by the Judicial Council of California or US District Courts. In addition, many translators are certified by foreign universities and entities.

The American Translators Association is the only certifying body for translators in the United States. Candidates qualify in the following languages paired with English: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Translators in other languages are subject to the ATA's special scrutiny to attain active membership status.

QHOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRANSLATION?

AParagon charges for each word translated. The rates vary by language and the cost may be affected by turnaround time and output.

QI HAVE A DOCUMENT THAT CONTAINS 1,000 WORDS. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO HAVE IT TRANSLATED?

AIn order to give you an exact price quote, we must see the document(s) in question. Sometimes documents are hard to read, especially if they have been faxed numerous times or if they are handwritten. Sometimes they contain industry-specific language that will require a translator-specialist. Just fax or email the document and we will get back to you immediately with a firm price and time quote. And if we have any questions about your text, we will make sure we have your answers before we prepare the quote.

Q: I ONLY HAVE A PARAGRAPH OR A FEW SENTENCES TO BE TRANSLATED. HOW WILL YOU CHARGE ME FOR THIS?

AParagon has a minimum charge for all projects. Please submit your document to us so that we can determine if your document falls within this category.

QCAN YOU FORMAT MY TRANSLATION TO LOOK LIKE MY ORIGINAL DOCUMENT?

AParagon’s desktop publishing staff is equipped to format the translation to mirror your document in every way to the extent that the translated language allows it. We can take your layout file (Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) and place the translated text into the area containing the original text.

QCAN YOU TRANSLATE MY WEB SITE?

AYes. We will translate, localize and test all text and elements of your web site. This may include graphics, audio-visual files, links and portals. Paragon will evaluate the cultural suitability of your call-outs and graphics and advise you of any recommended changes. Once we have all the information, we will provide a quote promptly.

QARE YOU A CERTIFIED AGENCY?

AThere are no certified agencies; translators and interpreters are certified. Paragon guarantees that all its linguists are certified at the highest level available for their language.

QCAN YOU CERTIFY A TRANSLATION?

AParagon will provide a certification that states under penalty of perjury that the translation is accurate and complete and was executed by a certified translator whose name and credentials are included. Some courts do certify translations, among them, U.S. District Court. This may be useful if your document is to be submitted into evidence. Please let us know in advance if you need this certification. In addition, a notarized translator’s declaration can be attached to any translation.

QWHAT FILE FORMATS DO YOU ACCEPT?

AWe accept all file formats in any platform (PC or Mac).

QCAN YOU EDIT OTHER PEOPLE’S WORK?

AYes, we can, although it is sometimes better and less costly to re-translate your document.

QARE YOU AVAILABLE AFTER HOURS?

AParagon’s staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

QARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH ANY OTHER LANGUAGE COMPANY OR ARE YOU A MEMBER OF ANY RECOGNIZED ORGANIZATION IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

AParagon is independently owned and operated, however, we have several strategic partners to expand our services to you, i.e. telephone interpreting, market research, public relations, and on-demand printing. Paragon is a member of the American Translators Association and the Association of Language Companies.

QWHAT’S A BACK-TRANSLATION AND DO I NEED IT?

AA back-translation is sometimes required by regulatory agencies to ensure that the translation contains all the ideas and elements of the original text. Such translations affect public health and safety.

QWHAT IF THERE IS REPETITIVE TEXT IN MY DOCUMENT, WILL I BE CHARGED FOR REPETITIVE TEXT?

AParagon uses computer assisted translation tools (CAT) to identify repetitive text, compile glossaries, and manage large scale translation projects. Text that is repetitive is charged at a significantly reduced rate.

QARE YOUR INTERPRETERS CERTIFIED?

AYes, at every level and in every language in which certification is available. Our interpreters are certified by U.S. District Court, U.S. Department of State, United Nations, International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), and member states of the Consortium for State Court Interpreter Certification. Interpreters are available for legal and medical matters, conferences, meetings and negotiations.

QCAN YOU PROVIDE CONFERENCE INTERPRETERS OVERSEAS?

AParagon provides conference interpreters with expertise in any subject, anywhere in the world.
