Localization vs. translation
If translations viewed the world through a telescope, localizations would view the world through a magnifying glass. Translation is the conversion of words and their underlying ideas from one language to another, whereas localization includes all aspects of transforming a document, including software or any other source, rendering it completely acceptable to your target locale. This may include conversion of dates and times, font sizes to accommodate expanding languages, or even the design and color of websites to harmonize with local standards and practices.
